If I move through this fluid world
I am caught in a cast iron pose
These rigid arms and legs
A never ending reminder
Of movement.

One Single Impression Prompt 34: Never Ending
Cast Iron Ballerina Painting Acylic on Canvas by Kathie Adams Brown 2005
It stands still, yet reminds us of movement-what a paradox! I would not want to be in that position neverendingly.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this.
I am always impressed and intrigued by sculpture who imbue hard surfaces with the softness and subtlety of life. And I know the feeling you describe as I awake this morning stiff and sore and wishing I could flow right into the new day. Those were the days.
ReplyDeletemovement frozen in time, becomes never ending~~ very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteThis was very enjoyable. I was lucky to have wandered through several sculpture gardens recently and I am always amazed at the perception of impending movement caught in some sculpture. Your poem evokes this well.
ReplyDeleteI love this one - a similar piece sits on a nearby shelf as a reminder of things that were! Great job!
ReplyDelete..the caption, the image, the poem- i am awe struck-they are all doing what i look for in a poem-any poem-in totality i forget the sculpture and see only the meaning-the wonderful meaning..well done kathie!..
ReplyDeleteWhat a different take on the prompt. It is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love the words you use in your poem,"fluid world," and the sculpture is a perfect pair for a picture of never ending movement.
ReplyDeleteThe multi-layers here were perfectly set up with that first line. Great. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteDear Kathie-
ReplyDeleteI really like this. There's just an element of bitter-sweet, like the best dark chocolate.
Thank you for the words and image, and for coming by the Virtual Tea House!
I love all the opposites in your poem. Is the dancer your work?
ReplyDeletehow lovely, it goes so well with the painting, very profound and makes me think how art can affect someone or how we go through life without ever noticing how fast or how slow we are moving
ReplyDeletefourwindshaiga, the painting is mine, but not the sculpture. I bought her from Pier One a few years ago and she has travelled back and forth across the USA with me. That painting is from a photo of her on my front porch when I lived in Maine. She has lived in Utah twice, Maine once, and now, Arizona where she stands on my back patio holding up a humingbird feeder. I still love to look at her.
ReplyDeleteHi Katherine, I like your poem a lot. To me it says we had better keep moving (actively going and doing things) or we will grow like that, just a regular stick in the mud! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your always encouraging me. I know I need some polishing, mostly I just write like I feel and hope it is some sort of poetry.
..
The model of the statue should eat more. The movemenet looks great, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great interpretation of the prompt. So glad I stopped in. Excellent!
