Skywatch Friday: Swainson's Hawk

Swainson's Hawk, Acrylic on canvas paper 9" x 12" by Kathiesbirds

Blue sky, brisk air,
An autumn gathering of raptors
Over green agricultural fields
Where raptors walk like chickens
On-the-ground,
And fill the hedgerows like blackbirds
With branches sagging from the weight of it all,
And the sky above full of feathered bodies
circling, circling, circling,
All in restless waiting
For the flight south to wintering grounds
There’s safety in numbers
Until you come home
In spring.

  2. Thanks! Thant's one good thing about paint, you can make it any color or intesity that you like! This painting was done from a photo Gus took and the sky actually was that blue.

  10. Hi Kathie, this is a nice bird you have painted. I looked at their range map, they don't migrate this far east in Texas. And I don't remember seeing any in El Paso but the map says yes, they to through there.

I also like the pumpkin below for Halloween Night. I'm guessing you painted a real pumpkin with a jack-o-lantern face. It is very pretty with the patern and colors you used.

Now I am off to your other blog to find your burrowing owl post.
