Skywatch Friday: Swainson's Hawk
Blue sky, brisk air,
An autumn gathering of raptors
Over green agricultural fields
Where raptors walk like chickens
On-the-ground,
And fill the hedgerows like blackbirds
With branches sagging from the weight of it all,
And the sky above full of feathered bodies
circling, circling, circling,
All in restless waiting
For the flight south to wintering grounds
There’s safety in numbers
Until you come home
In spring.

Beautiful. Now THAT's a blue sky! =)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Thant's one good thing about paint, you can make it any color or intesity that you like! This painting was done from a photo Gus took and the sky actually was that blue.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've captured shots like that.
Great one. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteMy SWF photos are posted here and here. Please stop by if you have some time. Thanks!
This is so true. And yet it is so sweet to come home!
ReplyDeleteJust awesome. How far south do they go, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's & amazing colors. I love the bird.
ReplyDeleteWe have red in sky here tonight.
Happy SWF!
i would love to see what you've described in your poem. I've never seen more than one hawk at a time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great painting this is! And the words are wonderful too!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathie, this is a nice bird you have painted. I looked at their range map, they don't migrate this far east in Texas. And I don't remember seeing any in El Paso but the map says yes, they to through there.
ReplyDeleteI also like the pumpkin below for Halloween Night. I'm guessing you painted a real pumpkin with a jack-o-lantern face. It is very pretty with the patern and colors you used.
Now I am off to your other blog to find your burrowing owl post.
..
I really enjoyed your poetry. Thanks for sharing what you feel and see in Nature. I'll be back.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful painting! Gotta love those raptors.
ReplyDeleteI have come here from Ms. Gattina's blogs. I have read/seen some of the posts. I would like to revisit.
ReplyDeleteIf you like short stories and paintings, then a short visit to my blogs would be a refreshing one.
