One special Christmas
so long ago,
but fresh in my memory,
like new fallen snow.
One little brother
I loved so dear,
one Christmas toy
to bring Christmas cheer.
Cutting and sewing
and stuffing away--
One special monkey,
One special day.
Christopher opened
that happy surprise,
he squealed and a light
danced into his eyes!
Tears were then rolling
down his cheeks and mine,
I'd given something
that made his eyes shine.
One Christmas Monkey
so simple--and Yet!
It made for a Christmas
I'll never forget!

What a beautiful memory. What Christmas is about.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy. That is what I think too!
DeleteAn oldie but goodie for sure! If it was the sock monkey, I've made and received that cultural icon myself. Love!
ReplyDeleteRuth, no, it was one I designed myself. I made the pattern and cut it out, then sewed and stuffed it. I think he still has it. Thankfully I had a mother who taught me to sew and let me use her sewing machine!
DeleteWhat a beautiful and cherished memory. Your gift to him was very special, and his gift to you was a light in his eyes that never faded from memory. love, love, love it.
ReplyDeleteBella, this is so true! How I love to think of that Christmas Day!
DeleteHi Kathie
ReplyDeleteWhat a vivid poem I can see the scene as if I was there. You have captured the true spirit of Christmas here.

Guy, thank you. As you can see, I wrote this poem a long time ago. It's one of my best memories!
