Bobolink

In a sea of green waving grass you flutter
up in jubilant song
black feathers, yellow and white excitement,
with notes incomprehensible,
a melody that captures the heart and
raptures the soul
in one glorious exhibition,
one small bird
in a hay field
in spring.

  3. That rapture--like the massive rustling of new leaves on a maple tree in May!

  4. Hi Kathie ~~ From what I read (Wikipedia), it would be the male Bobolink doing the singing. His mate is probably nearby tending to the nesting duties. Did you know that the people of Jamaica call them Butterbirds and eat them?

Your poem is lovely. I didn't even know there were such birds as Bobolinks until reading it. Thank you.
I have the live web cam Decorah eagles video on my blog. I watched them nest, some hatch, and now I am waiting for them to go off on their own. There were three eggs which all hatched.

Right now they and the mother are resting. Please paste this link:

I am very sorry to hear of your slow down and of the episode. I sure didn't like the episode's outcome as I know that you don't and are bothered with it.

On your slow down, I hope you can be better soon. I've slowed too but don't use a cane. It will probably be knee surgery.
Part of my family, the Fletcher part, is from Searsmont, Maine. The Cram part is from a small wide spot west of Searsmont.

  5. Hi Kathie

I really enjoyed your poem. I loved "black feathers, yellow and white excitement" as a description
and I thought the ending was a perfect
    counterpoint.

    Regards
    Guy
